CONTRACT MANUFACTURING

TPI’s contract manufacturing unit, General Auto Engineering Industries Pvt Ltd (GAEI) was started in the year 1983 for manufacture of field coils for dynamos and starters exclusively for M/S Lucas TVS Ltd. GAEI supplies field coils for starters and dynamos and starter switch assemblies. GAEI manufactures field coils for starters ranging from 0.8Kw to 23Kw .

In September 2001, Prof Washio Emeritus,KEIO Univ.Japan. visited our factory to study our operations and suggest quality and productivity improvements.

Prof Washio is the only individual in the world to have been awarded the Deming Award for Quality. He is the leading consultant for most of the major automobile manufacturers of the world.

On observation of our operations in the Gemba he has advised us on important areas like 5 S , Productivity improvements and implementation of Stastical Process Control.

His observations were:

"I recognised the morale of people is high. Then your product quality is quite good. One area to be focused will be Productivity Improvement.By introducing proper jigs/fixtures in the process, I think you can improve productivity. You can reach an excellent company in terms of quality and productivity." - Prof. Y.Washio

On observation of our operations in the Gemba he has advised us on important areas like 5 S , Productivity improvements and implementation of Stastical Process Control.

The team in GAE has implemented most of the suggestions put forward by Prof Washio and in the process improved the product quality as well increased productivity.
